Moody 35 for sale lying afloat in Salcombe Harbour with Devon Boat Sales. The Moody is a classic British Centre Cockpit cruising yacht designed for dependable offshore passagemaking and comfortable liveaboard sailing. Built during the 1980s by Marine Projects, the Moody 35 became well known for its solid construction, forgiving handling, and practical interior layout including an aft double berth— qualities that earned it a loyal following among long-distance cruisers and coastal sailors alike.
The bilge keel version features twin shallow keels mounted externally along the hull, allowing the yacht to safely dry out upright on tidal moorings and estuaries without requiring a cradle or marina berth. This made it especially popular around the tidal waters of the United Kingdom and northern Europe. At approximately 35 feet in length, the yacht balances seaworthiness with manageable handling, making it suitable for couples or small crews.
Visually, the Moody 35 has the purposeful appearance of a traditional cruising yacht: a moderately beamy hull, high freeboard for interior volume, a deep center cockpit protected by sturdy coamings, and a strong masthead rig designed for reliability rather than outright racing performance. Wide side decks and substantial stainless-steel guardrails provide security at sea, while the heavy displacement gives the boat a steady, reassuring motion in rough conditions.
Below deck, the interior is warm and unmistakably classic, with rich teak joinery, practical sea berths, and a spacious saloon built for life aboard during extended passages. The aft cabin provides a private owner’s berth, while the galley and navigation station are arranged for use underway in heavy weather. Large water and fuel capacities, combined with ample storage, reflect the yacht’s original purpose as a capable offshore cruiser rather than a marina showpiece.
Under sail, the Moody 35 Bilge Keel is known for being predictable, stable, and forgiving. While not especially fast by modern standards, it performs confidently in a wide range of conditions and rewards conservative, comfortable passagemaking. Its reputation rests less on speed and more on trustworthiness — the kind of yacht designed to carry its crew safely through foul weather and long distances with quiet competence.
This example has recently been out the water for an antifoul and polish for the coming season.
